A new coast brings with it the implications of a whole new world. To East-Coasters, whose point of reference is New York City, San Francisco uncovers a whole new concept for a major metropolitan area. Any large city has green space, arts, culture and iconic architecture, but San Francisco seems to have been particularly successful in bringing those aspects front and center, preserved beautifully. As with all good things, San Francisco’s preserved beauty and quaintness does come at a monetary and societal cost. The Bay Area is infamous for its outrageous housing market, and general priciness, thanks in no small part to the omnipresence of Big Tech, which has put undue stress on the booming population of San Francisco. Yet, for all its shortcomings, it’s a pretty cool city. To finish out the first year of this publication, this is a special travel issue specifically covering the Bay Area. We hope this publication can serve not only as something nice to look at, but also a guide of sorts. While it’s certainly not in-depth, we think our observations from our six-day adventure could spark inspiration for like-minded travelers.
